Classical Music has gone through great stress since the last four decades. Due to non-availability of a "teaching" institute of Classical Music, carelessness of official departments, absence of patronage by the Government Departments and lack a desire to share by the Musical families, new vocalists initiated Music according to their sense and whilst the western style of Music, resultantly our rhythmic & melodious Music has been distorted. SUR-SEVA (Music Research Organization) has been created to be a partner in saving the Eastern Music from extinction

Aims and objectives

Classical Music of the Sub-continent is very legendary, melodious, tuned and spiritually transcendental. Its variety is different from the world. Many religions perform their worship through Music. Indian Music is part of Hindu Dharam (Religion) and has about three thousand years old history. It consists of twelve notes and is a part of worship of Hindu Dharam in that they sing Bajjan & worship their gods.

After arrival the Muslims in this region changed the poetry of these Rags. Many big names are prominent in this regard, who composed their devoted poetry and initiated Qavali (a form of devotional chorus and appreciation of their holy names while deriving pleasure and preaching of Islam) this, they used for the promotion of Islamic thought. Present Classical Music gradually developed from Ragdari to Thumery, Ghazal and Geet. Actually, music is a rich folk heritage of Sub-continent for providing catharsis of religious feelings. After this “Naat-Rasool-e-Maqbool ( )” & Kaffies ( )of our great saints was introduced. Subsequently people of the sub-continent were influenced by them and embraced Islam. Now this is a part of Islamic world heritage. One typical sect is emotionally involved in this mode of singing.

Presently existing Rags are translated from Sanskrit (Old Indian Language) to Hindi and Urdu. Maestros of Music divided this Music in 10 Thaths ( ) and a long list of Rags related with these Thaths. This was very big and latest development in Music and made it very convenient for the new learner. There is no doubt that the world of Music is a very lengthy subject and specifically Indian Music (Ragdari ), which is also very sensitive & insightful. If it’s desired, one can get pleasure and peace while attaining spiritual harmony. Later Khayal Gayaki was introduced, as it exists today in the sub-continent. It has been developed, nourished and brought to perfection under the aegis of different Gharanas (families) founded by some of the great masters of this art during the past two hundred years. In present days Ghazal is prominent, if a learner want to sing a melodious songs he must learn the basic 10 Thaths and related prominent Rags.
